Ingredients
  

Dough

  • 1 cup whole milk warmed to about 100°F (38°C)
  • cup granulated sugar divided
  • 1.5 tablespoons Platinum Yeast from Red Star 2 standard-size packets
  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened to room temperature
  • 2 large eggs at room temperature
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 4.5 cups all-purpose flour or bread flour, spoon & leveled

Filling

  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter softened to room temperature
  • ½ cup brown sugar packed light or dark
  • 1.5 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 cups peeled chopped apples about 2 medium apples

Icing

  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 2 tablespoons salted caramel warmed

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Whisk the warm milk, 2 tablespoons sugar, and the yeast together in the bowl of your stand mixer. Cover and let sit for about 5 minutes or until foamy on top.
  • Beat in the remaining sugar and softened butter until slightly broken up, then add the eggs and salt, and beat until combined.
  • Switch to low speed, add 1 cup of flour at a time, and mix until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
  • Knead the dough for an additional 5 minutes until soft and slightly tacky.
  • Lightly grease a large bowl, place the dough in, cover, and let rise for 2 hours or until double in size.
  • Grease a baking dish and prepare to roll out the dough.
  • Punch down the dough, roll it into a 12x18-inch rectangle, and place filling ingredients on top.
  • Spread the softened butter over the dough, sprinkle the cinnamon mixture, and top with chopped apples.
  • Roll the dough tightly, cut into 12 rolls, and arrange in the baking pan. Cover and let rise for 45-60 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (191°C) and bake for about 25 minutes.
  • Prepare the icing by whisking all icing ingredients together and drizzle over warm rolls before serving.

Notes

You can prepare the rolls the night before and refrigerate, allowing them to rise the next morning before baking. Rolls can also be frozen for up to 3 months.
