Instructions

Baking Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  • Mix together cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract. Set aside.
  • Wash and slice strawberries. Set aside. (I used a small heart cookie cutter to slice my strawberries).
  • Unfold pastry and gently roll out creases.
  • Use a heart cookie cutter to cut out hearts. Using a smaller cookie cutter, or a knife, make a smaller heart indent (not cutting all the way through) inside the larger heart.
  • Brush the outer edge of the hearts with beaten egg.
  • Spoon about ½ tablespoon cream cheese mixture onto the smaller heart, leaving the border around the edge.
  • Top cream cheese mixture with a slice or two of strawberries.
  • Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until pastry is golden brown.
  • Let danishes cool slightly and dust with powdered sugar.
  • Best served on the day they are made, either warm or room temperature.

Notes

This makes approximately 18 heart pastries, but will vary depending on the size of your cookie cutter. (I did have scraps leftover after cutting out my hearts).
